When Amelia touched a sword fragment that powered the mechanism, she vanished before Lara’s eyes — lost in Avalon, or something far darker. For young Lara, this moment was the genesis of her legend: an unanswered mystery that would haunt her forever.
This trauma fused with the legacy of her father, Richard Croft, a man whose own obsession with the supernatural left behind secrets and enemies alike. From that point on, Lara’s life became a search for answers. Not for treasure, not for fame — but for truth.

The climax of the Legend Timeline unfolds in Underworld, where Lara’s obsession leads her into the heart of Norse mythology. She discovers that Avalon and Helheim — the land of the dead — are one and the same. To open its gates, she must recover Thor’s ancient relics: his belt, his gauntlets, and the mighty hammer Mjolnir.
But her quest comes at a terrible cost. Croft Manor is destroyed in a devastating explosion. Her loyal ally Alister is killed by Lara’s own doppelgänger, a cruel mirror of herself created by Natla. With every step forward, Lara pays in pain, loss, and blood.
Armed with Mjolnir, she finally breaches Helheim. There, in the Sea of Eitr, she faces her greatest heartbreak: Amelia Croft, her mother, reduced to a thrall — a soulless puppet enslaved by Natla’s power. In a moment of devastating clarity, Lara realizes Amelia had died long ago. To end her torment, she makes the impossible choice to cast her into the abyss.
Natla reveals the full scope of her manipulations: she orchestrated Richard Croft’s death, transformed Amelia into a thrall, and used Lara’s grief to unlock Helheim for her own designs. In the final confrontation, Lara and Amanda form an uneasy alliance, wielding Mjolnir to destroy Natla and collapse Helheim once and for all.
Emerging from the ruins, Lara whispers a final farewell to her mother. For the first time, she gains closure, though at the price of nearly everything she held dear.
