Lara Croft original timeline Beginning

Lara Amelia Croft, better known as Lara Croft, is the protagonist of the Tomb Raider video game series.

She is a British archaeologist and treasure hunter, whose legendary exploits have led her to search for some of the world’s most powerful and dangerous artifacts,

as well as discovering some of the most mysterious places in history of Earth. Lara was created by British developer Core Design as the protagonist of the first Tomb Raider,

released in 1996 by Eidos Interactive. Designer Toby Gard is recognized as the main mastermind behind the creation of the character,

an archaeologist armed with two pistols, with a captivating appearance characterized by a long braid, very short shorts and a teal lycra bodysuit.

Interlude

Gard wanted to make an innovative strong and independent female protagonist, far from being the classic sexual fetish.

The end result was a compromise between Gard’s ideas and those of the rest of the development team, more inclined to give it an erotic value.

Initially the intended name was Laura Cruz, a Hispanic character, and this too was a small revolution for the time,

but probably the times weren’t ripe enough and she finally became the English Lara Croft.

The character takes up the stereotype of the archaeologist-adventurer, rather openly inspired by Indiana Jones; it is not a confirmed news,

but it seems that the first sketches represented a male character similar to him. According to the rumor,

Lara’s increased physique was born as a joke by the designer, who increased the volume of the character’s breasts by 150%.

However, the development team, seeing the sketch, was positively impressed by the new measures,

so much so that they became the definitive ones, putting aside realism. However,

starting from the Legend title, they will be made less explosive and more realistic.
